Product Details

SMF Series Froth Pumps – Product Overview

Product Introduction

The SMF Series froth pumps are heavy-duty, horizontal centrifugal pumps specifically engineered for handling troublesome froth and viscous slurries in mineral processing applications. Based on the proven SMH Series heavy-duty slurry pump platform, the SMF pump has been modified with a unique impeller design and oversized inlet to effectively handle froth that would otherwise air-bind conventional pumps .

In flotation processes, mineral-bearing froth contains fine particles suspended in air bubbles. These resilient bubbles can cause standard slurry pumps to lose prime, surge, or become air-locked, leading to inefficient operation and increased downtime. The SMF Series solves this challenge with a flow inducer impeller featuring vanes that protrude into the suction intake, pre-swirling the froth and dissipating air bubbles before they can inhibit slurry flow.

Key Features & Benefits

Specialized Froth-Handling Design

Inducer impeller with oversized inlet vanes that shear non-Newtonian slurries and draw froth into the pump

Large eye diameter reduces inlet velocities and lowers NPSH requirements

Open internal passages minimize internal turbulence and reduce air entrapment
